The following is a traditional Dutch poem about fire engines. This is simply a demonstration of this website's capabilities and might be of interest to Junior Firefighters.
Waarom is de Brandweerwagon rood?
De brandweeragon is rood omdat heij fier wheilen heft an een reserve wheil.
Fier an een is fief.
Fief ons in een pont.
Een pont vaart over het Ij.
En het Ij zweema fissen.
Fissen habben finnen.
Finnen vochten tegan de Russan.
De Russan zien rood.
An daarom is de Brandweerwagon rood.
Why is the fire engine red?
The fire engine is red because it has four wheels and one spare.
Four and one is five.
There are five ounces in a pound (pont).
A ferry (pont) travels over the water.
In the water, swim fish.
Fish have fins.
The Fins (or Finnish people) fight against the Russians.
The Russians are red.
And that is why the fire engine is red.
- Traditional Dutch poem.
